High 3 Star Hotels Moving down the price lists takes us to the three hotels that at the top of the 3 Star list. _A personal favorite – but increasingly hard to confirm because it is so small and highly regarded – is the Martinique Hotel, just three blocks down from the Sofitel and one block back on a quiet, tree-shaded street. Small rooms, small lobby but very chic in its own way with lots of clean lines and blond wood. A great choice. Technically in Copacabana, but on the way to Ipanema and equidistant to the two beaches is the South American Copacabana,a somewhat new (10 years old) hotel that offers large common space, a good breakfast and decent sized rooms. Nothing special, but a very good value for the price. Finally arriving in Ipanema, located directly on the main street of Visconde de Piraja, is the Mar Ipanema. An older property that has refurbished in a big way, it strives to be as stylish and trendy as can be, but its age and small rooms prevent it from being super chic. Nevertheless, the location (heart of Ipanema, two blocks from beach) make it a good option and reasonable value in its class. Our Least Expensive Option – the Classic 3 Star Hotel In a category all its own is the venerable Savoy Othon. Nothing fancy, nothing elegant. But really a very nice place to rest your head. Yes, its on the busy Nossa Senhora de Copacabana in a crowded neighborhood (but only one block back from beach!), but the lobby is welcoming, the staff very friendly, the rooms clean and totally fine. You will not find anything better than this even at $20-$30/ room/ night less. Our rates here are the best available. If you are on a tight budget, stay here! Superior rooms suggested.
